Derek Farrell


 Dr Derek Farrell has been a Mental Health practitioner for over twenty years. Before moving in to academia he was a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychotherapy specialising in psychological trauma. He also worked for four years for the Police Rehabilitation and Retraining Trust, Belfast, Northern Ireland, treating serving and non-serving officers of the former Royal Ulster Constabulary [now Northern Ireland Police Federation]. In 2003 he completed his PhD Psychology, which was based upon survivor’s experience of sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy and religious. He is UKCP and BABCP accredited psychotherapist, and an EMDR Europe Approved Consultant and Trauma Therapist. In addition he is current President of EMDR UK & Ireland and also Chair its Accreditation Committee.

 

Paul Keenan

Paul Keenan is a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR Trauma therapist. His core profession is nursing; however, he has been practising as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist since 1991. He is a senior lecturer in mental health at Edge Hill University Liverpool. He is programme coordinator for a master’s programme in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. His role is to teach and to provide support for the course in-house supervisors. He has a particular interest in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, although his research for his MSc centred on the use of Eye movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing in the treatment of morbid jealousy. He is a consultant in EMDR and an accredited Cognitive behavioural Psychotherapist, with the BABCP and the UKCP.
He has taken part in two previous Humanitarian Assistance Programme (HAP) initiatives in Turkey in 1999 and India in 2005. He has presented on EMDR at a number of national and international conferences.
